Book Review: Origins of the Outbreak by Brian Parker

I was completely blown away by this book. As a zombie author myself I was intrigued from the moment I picked up this book, and I wasn’t disappointed. In fact, I couldn’t put this book down.

Origins of the Outbreak has been written from the perspective of the victims, most of whom end up in an infected state. It has been written perfectly, and each character ties in with the previous. Not only that, but each character has a completely different background – whether it be a business man, a tattoo artist or a lonely housewife, this is what makes the characters so believable.

I loved the explanation behind what caused the zombie mutation, without giving too much away Parker used a real life ‘zombie fungus’ for his viral creation. As soon as I read this, I knew exactly where his idea had come from – I used the very same fungus in the inspiration for my E Virus zombies. (well part’s of it anyway)

I also loved that further into the story Ebola is also mentioned, as you are all well aware the current Ebola outbreak is spreading through Africa at an enormous rate. It’s something I have always watched closely, so to see it in the story for me, this made the story much more believable and it pushed me to want to know more. Again, my readers will know E Virus is based on the Ebola outbreak – so to see it mentioned in Origins brought a massive smile to my face!

Suffice to say, I loved every second of this story, I would definitely put this on my list as one of the top zombie books out there, and urge everyone out there to give Origins a read – it really is that good!
