As most of you may be aware, a great deal of book groups/clubs on Facebook are often be filled with post upon post of Authors trying desperately to plug their work. As an author I can relate and I completely get why this is, for most self-published authors, making a decent amount of money especially on the likes of Amazon is a hard task to accomplish. Most authors are unable to write full time. Most authors, myself included, tend to write as a hobby. We still have full time jobs, we still have homes to run, children to entertain and a social life to maintain.
With the rise of technology, it is now easier than ever to become an author (I mean let’s face it, if I can do it, anyone can). There are so many people all over the world who are full of fantastic ideas. How amazing is it that they can now put pen to paper and make that dream a reality?
Unfortunately that dream is becoming harder and harder to ascertain. With millions of authors worldwide, all with the dream to become the next J.K Rowling, it would seem that having a “good book” just isn’t enough. What all of us authors need, both self-published and published, is a sound marketing plan.
I have often said that writing a book is in fact the easiest part of being an author. The hard part is getting your book seen and heard. A great way to do this is to join a few Facebook groups within your genre and GET INVOLVED. By this I do not mean shamelessly plug your work on a daily basis, as this will do you no favours. First and foremost, when you join a group, read the rules! Interact with the readers and other authors. Add to discussions, ask questions, they won’t bite (most of the time). You never know, you might even learn a thing or two.
To help you on your quest I have included 5 of the Zombie reading groups I have come across so far for readers and authors. Without further ado:
Created by Alina, this close knit group is happy for books to be promoted and with Alina at the helm, zombie related discussions are often posted.
My Zombie Addiction
My Zombie Addiction has been active for a number of years. Run by Toni Lesatz this group has a dedicated post in which you are able to promote your work in the comments section, however it focuses more on discussions relating to books, films, TV shows and Games. If it’s zombie related, this group wants to know about it.
Zombie Book of the Month Club
This group is one you can really get involved with. They hold frequent contests, not to mention voting for your favourite “Zombie Book of the Month”.
All Things Zombie’s Book Club
This group does what it says on the tin. It holds frequent zombie book related discussions. Most of the group participants are authors so it is a great place to network.
Kindle Zombie Books
This group is one of the larger Facebook Groups and as such it is monitored quite closely by the admin. Posts have to be approved by admin before going into this group. As long as your book is zombie related, they seem to allow book sharing posts.
